stars in Europe - Uche not angry at Nigeria World Cup snub

The Villarreal striker was not picked by Keshi, despite scoring 12 goals in the Spanish top flight this season. Uche has not played for his country since they won the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa last year. The 30-year-old insists, however, that he holds no grudges against Keshi. "Of course as a professional footballer you'd love to represent your country, but I have never had bad words towards the national coach," Uche is widely regarded as one of Nigeria's most reliable strikers at international level and is one of his nation's all-time top scorers, with 18 goals in 45 appearances, behind Rashidi Yekini, Segun Odegbami and Yakubu Aiyegbeni.

Stars in Europe - Senegal - Transfer - Niclas Jackson completed Villa move

Nicolas Jackson

The Details
Aston Villa completed the signing of Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea in a deal worth up to £65m, making the Senegalese striker Villa's new record signing, overtaking Johan Manzambi. The move came as Ollie Watkins edged toward a departure to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal after six years at Villa Park.

The Bigger Picture
This was more than one signing; it was a full Unai Emery rebuild. Morgan Rogers, Ezri Konsa, Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne had already walked out the door, replaced by Jackson, Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes, Zion Suzuki and Matteo Ruggeri.

The Caveat
Context mattered. Watkins had started 43 matches the previous season; Jackson started just 15 of 34 appearances. A smaller, substitute-heavy sample could flatter per 90 numbers, and Jackson's finishing at Chelsea (14 goals from 18.7 xG in 2023 24) had long attracted scrutiny.

The Emery Connection
This wasn't a blind gamble. Emery had coached Jackson at Villarreal, where the forward credited him with transforming his understanding of the game. "Unai taught me everything about football," Jackson said. Their reunion came after a Chelsea spell that yielded 30 goals and 12 assists in 81 appearances.

The Closer
Five years younger, more involved in build-up play, with more touches, and carries, Jackson didn't just replace Watkins' role; he rewrote it. Villa weren't just changing strikers. They were changing how their attack breathed.
