The Night Sadio Mané Saved Senegal

In the 98th minute, referee Jean Jacques Ndala awarded a penalty after consulting the pitchside monitor, having been advised by the video assistant referee (VAR) to review defender El Hadji Malick Diouf's challenge on Brahim Diaz.

Still furious about Ndala's decision to disallow a Senegal goal, head coach Pape Thiaw led his team off the pitch.

Meanwhile, Sadio Mané remained on the pitch, encouraging his Senegalese teammates to finish the game. The players eventually returned 17 minutes later.

Real Madrid striker Brahim Diaz had a great chance to decide the game, but missed the penalty kick. The referee immediately blew his whistle to end the match.

In the fourth minute of extra time, Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye scored the winning goal, sealing a second triumph in five years for the Lions.
