Defending champions TP Mazembe of DR Congo thrashed visiting Al Hilal Obeid of Sudan 5:0 to progress to the Confederation Cup semi-finals.

Sunday's win sees them win the tie 7:1 on aggregate after they won 2:1 in Sudan last weekend.

Jean Kassusla began the rout just before half-time from a free-kick.

Goals from Adama Traore, Ben Malango and Meschak Elia followed with Issama Mpeko putting the icing on the cake with a fifth goal in injury time.

Mazembe will now face FUS Rabat in the semi-finals after the Moroccans beat Tunisian's CS Sfaxien on penalties yesterday after their quarter-final ended 1:1 on aggregate.

Winger Thuso Phala scored twice to help SuperSport United of South Africa overcome Zesco United and reach the African Confederation Cup semi-finals for the first time.

His stoppage-time equaliser salvaged a 2:2 draw away to the Zambian side in Ndola on Saturday.

That result gave the South African side an away goals victory after the first leg had ended 0:0 and earned them a place in the last four against either Club Africain of Tunisia or Mouloudia Alger of Algeria.

"It does not matter who we meet as all the clubs are giants at this stage," said SuperSport goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

Zesco led twice in Ndola and seemed destined to advance as the match drifted into extra time.

But the home side failed to mark Phala as a hopeful long ball dropped into the goalmouth and he beat goalkeeper and captain Jacob Banda at his near post to put his side through.

Zesco had gone ahead early in the match when John Ching'andu volleyed in a deep cross past Williams.

Another long cross led to the first SuperSport equaliser on 34 minutes with Phala firing the ball across Banda into the far corner of the net.

Slack SuperSport marking allowed Kenyan David Owino to put Zesco ahead again on 50 minutes before Phala's late strike.

Elsewhere, FUS Rabat of Morocco defeated CS Sfaxien on penalties on Friday to advance to the Confederation Cup semi-finals.

The Moroccan club secured the win despite losing the second leg 1:0 in Tunisia, a result which levelled the quarter-final aggregate score at 1:1.

FUS then seized their place in the last four with a 5-4 victory on penalties.

Karim Aouadhi, who hit a 23rd-minute penalty in Sfax, was the only player not to score in the shootout.

It was an uncharacteristic miss by the tall midfielder, whose six-goal haul this season in Africa's second tier club competition included four penalties.

Badr Boulahroud, Ivorian Lamine Diakite, El Mehdi El Bassil, Zakaria Belmaachi and Mohamed Saoud were the successful Rabat penalty-takers.

After Aouadhi fluffed his shootout spot-kick, Yassine Meriah, Hamza Mathlouthi, Alaa Marzouki and Oussema Amdouni netted for three-time Confederation Cup winners Sfaxien.

FUS will be away to title-holders TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo or Al Hilal Obied of Sudan next weekend in the first leg of the semi-final.

Mazembe hold a 2:1 lead from the first leg in Sudan as they prepare for Sunday's home leg in Lubumbashi.

In other games, Tunisia's Club Africain host Mouloudia Alger of Algeria trailing 1:0 from the first leg.
