Eto'o was a part of the squads that won the 2000 and 2002 Africa Cup of Nations, and was a gold medalist at the 2000 Summer Olympics. At the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup, in which Cameroon finished as runners-up, he scored his only goal in a 1:0 group-stage upset of Brazil on 19 June.

Arthur Wharton is to be honoured outside Rotherham United's New York Stadium. Born in 1865 in Jamestown, Gold Coast, in what is now Ghana. His pioneering footballing career started as a goalkeeper at Darlington FC and he played for numerous teams. Wharton played for the original Rotherham Town, a team of the same name was the forerunner of Rotherham United.

CLUB - EGYPT - COACH - Al Ahly appoint Mabrouk as new coach

AFRICAN CONFEDERATION CUP 2015

 

Egyptian champions Al Ahly have installed Fathi Mabrouk as their new coach to replace sacked manager Juan Carlos Garrido.

Garrido was dismissed after the club's Champions League exit on penalties to Moghreb Tetouan of Morocco on Saturday.

Mabrouk, who was Ahly's youth team manager, has previously held the position of first-team caretaker coach.

He was interim coach late last year after Mohamed Youssef was sacked, and he steered them to the league title.

Mabrouk's first match as permanent boss will be against Rocky El-Nasr in a league game on Wednesday.

Ahly are languishing in third place in the table with 46 points, 11 points behind leaders Zamalek.
