African Confederation Cup 2014 - group stage - 2nd matches - results

Nkana mourn the sudden death of coach Masauso Mwale. Zambian football is mourning the death of Nkana head coach Masauso Mwale who died in a car accident on Friday. Mwale was driving along the Kitwe-Ndola dual carriageway, to join up with his team at their training camp ahead of their African Confederation Cup match against Ivory Coast's Sewe San Pedro in Kitwe. He was 51 years of age.

Despite the tragic news, Nkana went ahead with Saturday's Group B Confederation Cup match against Sewe. A minute's silence was held in memory of coach Mwale before kick-off, and the players wore black armbands. The match ended in a 1:1 draw. Ronald Kampamba struck a second half equaliser for Nkana after the visitors had taken a 20th minute lead through Roger Assale. Nkana finished the match with ten men following the sending off of Billy Mwanza for a second bookable offence 10 minutes from time.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Issa Hayatou, expressed shock at the tragic news of Masauso Mwale's death.
"The news was a shocker and very sad. "On behalf of the CAF Executive Committee and the African football family, my condolences to the Football Association of Zambia (Faz), Nkana Football Club and the bereaved family. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult period," Hayatou said in a statement. Mwale was a popular and influential figure in African football. He was a former Zambia national team assistant coach and helped his club to win the Zambian championship last season.

In other African Confederation Cup games, Cameroon's Coton Sport were 2:1 winners over Mali's Real Bamako in Garoua in Group A. Elsewhere, ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast, missed a penalty and had a goal disallowed when held 0:0 by Congolese side AC Leopards in Abidjan. ASEC's Kofi Boua could have bagged a hat-trick, but blazed an early spot-kick wide. He was also ruled offside after putting the ball in the net, and missed several late chances.
