Schalke have completed the signing of Switzerland striker Breel Embolo from Basel for an undisclosed fee.

Embolo, 19, has signed a five-year contract with the Bundesliga club and kicker reports that he cost €20 million plus add-ons.

"In Breel Embolo we have won over a highly talented attacker who was highly coveted by several top European clubs, and who already has a lot of international experience," sporting director Christian Heidel said on the club's official website.

In a message to fans on Schalke's official Twitter feed, Embolo, who was part of Switzerland's Euro 2016 squad, said:

"Hello, fans. I'm Breel Embolo and I'm happy to be a Royal Blue.

"I'm still away at the European Championship at the moment but I'm looking forward to the new challenge ahead and playing for you guys, the fans. See you soon!"

Embolo, who had previously been linked with RB Leipzig and Manchester United, made 60 Swiss Super League appearances for Basel and scored 21 goals.
