NATIONAL TEAM - GUINEA - COACH - Guinea appoint Kanfory Bangoura

AFRICA CUP 2017 Qualifiers

 

The Guinea Football Federation's normalization committee has named Kanfory Mohamed 'Lappe' Bangoura as the new national team coach.

Bangoura has been caretaker coach of the Syli Nationale since Frenchman Luis Fernandez left the post in May.

The committee also appointed Frenchman Jean-Marc Nobilo as national technical director.

He had also been on the shortlist to be coach alongside Gernot Rohr, Paul Put and Bernard Simondi.

Nobilo's task will to be to help come-up and implement a football development policy for Guinea to make them competitive for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations which they are hosting.

Bangoura's first competitive game is a Nations Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe in September.

Guinea are unable to qualify for the 2017 finals in Gabon and so his main task will be to lead the team in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

They will play Tunisia, DR Congo and Libya with only the group winners to progress to the finals in Russia.
