STARS IN EUROPE - GHANA - CLUB - Daniel Opare's Augsburg future

FC Augsburg Daniel Opare

Daniel Opare's FC Augsburg career hangs in the balance after the German club admitted they are 'working on a solution' to the Ghana defender's current situation.

The 25-year-old was suspended from all club activities after turning up late for training last month.

It was the final session before they faced Darmstadt on 12 March, a fixture where Opare was hoping to make his Bundesliga debut having been blighted by injury since joining on a three-year deal from FC Porto in August.

Since his suspension, Opare has been forced to train alone as Augsburg manager Markus Weinzierl continues to isolate the right-back from his first-team squad.

The Ghanaian has apologised for what he described a 'mistake because I did not hear my alarm', but his future with the struggling club remains unclear.

"We are currently working on a solution to the problem relating to Daniel Opare," Dominik Schmitz, the club's media director, told BBC Sport.

Opare, who has 16 caps for the Black Stars, was expected to fill the void created by the absence of injured captain and regular right-back Paul Verhaegh.

He won the Fifa U-20 World Cup with Ghana in 2009 and played for the senior side at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but has since been overlooked by Ghana coach Avram Grant due to a lack of regular club football.
