CAF set to vote for Africa Cup 2017 hosts

AFRICA CUP 2015

Original hosts Libya, where a civil war has halted football, withdrew last year from staging the tournament.

The Confederation of African Football's executive committee will hold a vote at its annual congress in Cairo to decide their replacement.

CAF will also conduct the draw for the qualifiers, which will include Morocco and Tunisia, on Wednesday.

Morocco had been banned from taking part in the next two editions of the tournament after they did not host the 2015 event but were reinstated after winning their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Tunisia avoided a ban after apologising to CAF for accusing the governing body of bias.

All three of the candidates to host the next finals have previously staged the tournament and each has sent ministerial delegations to deliver last-minute presentations to the committee before the vote.

"We are up against some tough contenders but we think we have a good chance," Gabon Football Federation president Pierre-Alain Mounguengui said.

Gabon, the favourites to win the vote, co-hosted the 2012 finals with neighbours Equatorial Guinea.

Ghana hosted the finals in 1963, 1978 and 2008 and co-hosted in 2000 with Nigeria as late replacements when Zimbabwe was stripped of the right to hold the event.

Algeria hosted the tournament in 1990 when they won their only continental title.
