STARS IN EUROPE - TUNISIA - CLUB - Tunisia's Abdennour signs contract extension with Monaco

AS MONACO FC

Tunisia international Aymen Abdennour has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at French side AS Monaco until June 2019.

The 25-year-old defender signed for the principality outfit from Toulouse last summer and has gone on to make 21 appearances in all competitions scoring once against Zenit St Petersburg in the Champions League.

He had initially agreed a deal until 2018 but has now committed his long-term future to the club.

"I am pleased to announce that the agreement between me and my team AS Monaco has resulted in the extension for an additional year," the player tweeted  .

Capped 38 times by Tunisia, Abdennour has been linked with a move to English side Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks after a run of impressive displays in the centre of Monaco's defence.

But Vice-president Vadim Vasilyev of the Ligue 1 side was delighted to see him commit to the seven-time French champions.

"Aymen is an essential part of the group and we are very happy to see him commit to the club for another year," Vasilyev told the club's official website.

"We are working towards strengthening the team for the future and Aymen's contract extension is part of that project."

Abdennour, who began his career at Etoile du Sahel in his native Tunisia, had a brief spell with German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen in 2010 before sealing a move to Toulouse in July 2011.

He was a member of the Tunisia squad at the 2012, 2013 and 2015 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
