2015 AFRICA CUP - GROUP C - DAY 03 - Ghana vs Senegal 1:2

Africa Cup 2015 GROUP C

Ghana vs Senegal 1:2

The substitute scored with virtually the last kick of the game, slotting in from the edge of the box to snatch all three point for the Teranga Lions.

Ghana's Andrew Ayew scored a first-half penalty after Everton winger Christian Atsu had been fouled.

But Senegal roared back and hit the bar through Kara Mbodj, before Stoke striker Mame Biram Diouf nodded in an equaliser and Sow wrapped up the win.

It had looked as though the game was heading for a draw and what would have be the fourth 1:1 result in five games at the tournament.

But Sow's late intervention gave Senegal the victory their second-half domination deserved.

Ghana coach Avram Grant:

"We don't want this result that has happened but I'm sure as you saw the players showed good mentality and we hope it will be the same next game.

"It was a difficult match for us.

We were playing against experienced and very physical players but we knew that if we lost nothing would be decided."

Senegal coach Alain Giresse:

"At half-time I said to the players that nothing was lost.

At 1:0 down with 45 minutes left, there was no doubts. We went back out on to the field with conviction.

"It is always better to take three points, but it doesn't mean we are guaranteed to qualify, just as the defeat for Ghana does not mean they are eliminated."
