AFRICAN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2014 - FINAL - 2ND LEG - SETIF ARE AFRICAN KINGS

AFRICAN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2014

The win ended Setif's 26 year wait for African glory after the Algerian club won the competition’s predecessor, the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1988.

For Vita from the DR Congo, they continue with their agonising 41-year wait for African glory since lifting the old trophy in 1973.

Meanwhile the two sides headed into the final leg in Blida on Saturday night tied on 2:2 from the first leg in Kinshasa last Sunday.

However, Setif again broke the deadlock in the 50th minute when Sofiane Younes tapped in a El-Hedi Belamairi cross from close-range after the latter beat Patou Ebunga before delivering the assist.

Setif’s lead lasted for just four minutes when Luvumbu crossed the ball for Lema Mabidi who smashed in a volley past Khedairia.

The 1988 champions had a great chance to win the game in the 70th minute when Akram Djahnit's cheeky shot was saved by Nelson Lukong, but the home side had done enough to lift this year’s title.

The triumph continues a bumper year for Algeria, whose national team reached the second round of the World Cup in Brazil in June.

Vita's only previous success in the competition was in 1973 and they were runners-up in 1981, when it was still known as the African Champions Cup.

Entente Setif will now participate in next month's Club World Cup in neighbouring Morocco.
