COACHES - SOUTH AFRICA - South Africa set to name new coach

South Africa will announce their new coach on Saturday, with Carlos Queiroz thought to be the frontrunner.

However, the Portuguese has reportedly been offered an improved deal to stay in his current role as Iran coach.

And his salary demands could force South Africa to look elsewhere. "If Queiroz is unavailable, there are other candidates.

We will not become involved in a bidding war," said South Africa Football Association president Danny Jordaan.

Queiroz coached South Africa for two years from 2000 but was sacked after qualifying the side for the 2002 World Cup.

He has been in charge of Iran since 2011 and took them took to the World Cup in Brazil, where they were eliminated at the group stage.

Safa have been looking for a replacement for Gordon Igesund since June when it announced his contact, which expires at the end of August, would not be renewed.

The new coach's first task will be to lead Bafana Bafana to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

South Africa's qualification group starts on the weekend of 5/6 September, with Bafana Bafana away to Sudan.

They will also face Africa champions Nigeria and the winner of the second-round match between Congo and Rwanda.

Under Igesund, South African failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup and they also suffered a quarter-final exit on home soil at the 2013 African Nations Cup.
