NATIONAL TEAM - COACH - Rwanda want Stephen Constantine as coach

Rwanda have offered Briton Stephen Constantine a two-year deal to become their new national team coach.  The Federation of Rwandan Football Associations (Ferwafa) needs a successor to Eric Nshimiyimana, whose contract ends on 31 July. Former Millwall first-team coach Constantine, 51, has experience of African football, having managed Malawi from February 2007 to April 2008.

Constantine is expected to hold discussions with Ferwafa on Thursday. Rwanda Football Association (Ferwafa) spokesman Vedaste Kayiranga told BBC Sport on Wednesday morning that a deal had been agreed in principle. Former Ghana coach Ratomir Djukovic, Botswana coach Peter Butler and Ex-Tanzania coach Kim Poulsen had been among those in the running but Kayiranga. said: "We are impressed with Constantine and he is also ready to come and work."

Constantine, who holds a UEFA pro licence, recently helped Nea Salamis in the Cypriot First Division to gain promotion to the First Division. He has managed the national sides of Nepal, India, Malawi and Sudan. Ferwafa said it hopes to finalise the deal over the weekend in Tunisia where Rwanda takes on Libya in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Newly-appointed assistant coach Cassa Andre Mbungo is expected to be in-charge of the game against Libya.

A statement on Ferwafa's website  added: "There are a few details we need to discuss with Constantine before he can officially be unveiled as the head coach."
